Coffee Stout

Long Trail Coffee Stout offers a rich coffee flavor complimented by a beautifully full head. The beer is modeled after an award-winning homebrew recipe from one of the Long Trail’s own staff — sure to be a hit among craft beer enthusiasts.
Coffee stouts and porters have become popular, probably because the chocolate and coffee flavors from darker malts meld with coffee so well. But Long Trail has stolen a march with this beautiful drink, the best coffee stout we’ve had so far. Our panel thought the secret to its success is the use of a sweet stout instead of a dry stout. The coffee blends with the creamy sweetness of the beer for the perfect match. Here’s what they had to say:
“Beautiful stout!” said Robert Lachman. “Coffee aroma and flavor, with a malty, sweet and full-bodied beer, and sweet malty finish. Alcohol is muted, considering the 8% abv.” *
“It’s a good stout,” said Von Bair, simply. “A coffee stout is usually bitter, bitter, bitter, but this is softer and more pleasant.” *
“Very soft, almost like a milk stout, not overly bitter,” said Greg Zannella. *
“I like it a lot,” said coffee-drinker Phil Simpson. “Along with the coffee and milk stout flavor, there is a hint of chocolate or mocha.” *
“Like a mocha latte, creamy and
good,” agreed Pete Reid. *
“Wonderful balance,” said Dr. Steve Victor. “The secret is that this is a sweet stout, that’s why it works so well, because the coffee adds that extra bitterness that’s not present.” *
“Needs cream and sugar,” said Michael Anstendig.*
